Hey guys!
So a little bit of a bad news: I only read 3 books in July and it seriously sucks because I got into a reading slump as soon as I started reading my fourth book — My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry by Fredrick Backman. It’s not that I didn’t like what I read but as much as I wanted to continue reading the book, I had no will to do so.
It usually is hard for me to get into literary fiction but I’ve never gotten into a reading slump because of it. I think its because I’m also struggling with anxiety and some days are exponentially worst than the others.
BUTTTT I do, however, am in a reading mood because I picked up the copy of Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I’ve been wanting to read this book for quite some time and can’t wait to get into it. Enough with my incessant rambling, here’s what I read:
–> Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
- Rating: 3.35/5 stars
- What I thought about it: I mostly had mixed feelings about this poetry collection but I found myself thinking about it & liking this more and more as timed passed after I had finished reading it. For my in-depth thoughts read the review here.
–> Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
- Rating: 4/5 stars
- What I thought about it: I thoroughly enjoyed reading Illuminae’s sequel, just not as much as the first book, I thought some things were repetitive but it was still a solid read. I can’t wait to read the next book, Obsidio and see what’s in store for some of my favorite characters. For me in-depth thoughts read the review here.
–> Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
- Rating: 4.25/5 stars
- What I thought about it: This graphic novel was such a breath-of-fresh air! This was funny, witty and emotional. I’m hoping there’s a sequel to this! For me in-depth thoughts read the review here.
Yeah, so that’s pretty much it. It could be worst though, right? I’ll also be posting my August TBR tomorrow!
Happy reading!

Ugh, I hate reading slumps. Looks like you got some good reads in though! Hope your August will be better!

Three books is better than none if you’re a bookworm! Those reading slumps really are horrid, though haha. I was stuck in one for a long time during my last semester at university. I loved Gemina! Not as much as the first but I still think it’s one of the best sci-fi books in YA right now! Can’t wait for Obsidio as well! 😀

That’s so true! Fantasy always sort of lures me out of reading slumps, and I’m glad we both feel the same about Gemina!
