Hey guys!

Here are my thoughts on Nimona, I write as I wipe a stray tear from my face…

Goodreads Synopsis:

Nemeses! Dragons! Science! Symbolism! All these and more await in this brilliantly subversive, sharply irreverent epic from Noelle Stevenson. Featuring an exclusive epilogue not seen in the web comic, along with bonus conceptual sketches and revised pages throughout, this gorgeous full-color graphic novel is perfect for the legions of fans of the web comic and is sure to win Noelle many new ones.

Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren’t the heroes everyone thinks they are.

But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona’s powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.

Nonspoilery-Review

I absolutely loved reading Nimona, it was such a heartwarming read and it gives me A LOT OF FEELS!! I didn’t expect it to be so emotional, to be honest. Going in, I knew that I was gonna love it but I thought it’d be very light and humorous — which it was, but it also had drama, adventure and angst. The artwork is not something that blew my mind away and the overall color tone was pastel-y and dull, but what stood out were the characters which contrasted perfectly with their exuberance and vibrant personalities. Our main character, Nimona, was multi-dimensional and layered. She is very enigmatic and elusive for her past which made it hard me to guess how she would react in a situation. Lord Blackheart seems rough around the edges but he has a heart of gold and I loved his and Nimona’s friendship develop. Stevenson did a fantastic job at bringing all her characters to life!

The only thing that bothered me was the end, it seemed rushed and left me with a lot of questions. I was left wanting more & I’m hoping that there is a sequel so we’re able to learn more about Nimona’s past.

Overall, I would highly recommend this to everyone, this book is such a treat and I had smile plastered across my face for almost the entirety of the novel. Which just made me realize how creepy I must have looked on the train when I was reading it? Oops.

What’s your favorite graphic novel? If you guys have read Nimona, I would love to read in the comments section what you hought of it?

Happy reading!
