Liberated

You’re free! You have rights!*

*As long as you’re heterosexual

or male

or white

or christian

or wealthy

Because even freedom comes with a small price of a sexuality you don’t want to identify with

and gender that belittles you

and ethnicity that has slaughtered yours

and religion that you don’t believe in

and a social ladder you can’t possibly climb up the ranks of

this doesn’t make you free. But what does make you free is the sheer force of your will to fight for what you believe in. And to be consistent about it.

And everyone has a voice, no matter how hard the system tries to mute it, & there will once be so many of our voices joined together, singing the perfect harmony that they won’t be able to shut it down — the ability to be able to do that is freedom & I appreciate that.
